Show Coolant Color Fading (Opaque & Vue)
Updated June 2, 2026PrimoChill opaque and Vue show coolant color fades due to high pump speeds, air gaps, and continuous operation. Run pumps at 30-50% speed, fully bleed air, and power down when not in use to extend color life.
PrimoChill Opaque and Vue show coolants can lose their vibrant color over time. Unlike dye-based coolants where pH is the primary culprit, show coolant color drop is caused by physical stresses that break down suspended pigment particles.
Main causes of color fading:
High pump speeds: Fast flow creates shear forces and turbulence that break apart the bonds holding color pigments in suspension. Running your pump at maximum speed does more harm than good for color longevity. We recommend operating pumps at 30-50% of maximum speed.
Air gaps: Air trapped in reservoirs and distribution plates increases turbulence at the coolant surface. After filling your system, take time to thoroughly bleed out all trapped air — this step significantly extends color life.
Continuous operation: Running your loop 24/7 accelerates pigment degradation. Power down your system when not in use.
Expected lifespan: Depending on usage patterns and system setup, show coolant color typically lasts 3-6 months. Implementing these recommendations can extend that timeline considerably.
Alternatives: If you want long-term color without maintenance, consider using PrimoChill Ice, Pure, or True coolants (clear formulas) combined with colored tubing for a vibrant look that doesn't fade.
